This is a sad look at an unfortunate scenario of stand your ground laws. It leads to a great question of whether or not Jordan would still be here today if Florida never passed SYG laws. If the perpetrator who claimed self defense under the SYG couldn’t claim it, it is very possible Jordan would still be here today.
This CNN news clip adds on to the claims of Te-Nehisi Coates and Miller’s article that self defense and SYG laws discriminate against a certain race and class of people. The United States Attorney General is also seen speaking about how SYG laws may lead to more violence than not having them in the first place.
